After weeks of rumours, Sony and Santa Monica Studio have confirmed that God of War Ragnarök will be released for the PS4 and PS5 on 9 November 2022.
Sony released a 30-second cinematic short on Wednesday, showing Kratos and his son Arteus fighting off some of the Nordic dangers they encounter as Ragnarök approaches.
God of War Ragnarök is the sequel to the 2018 game God of War, and will be the ninth instalment in the God of War series.
Santa Monica Studio will also release two Collector’s Editions with the game – a standard Collector’s Edition and a Jötnar Edition.
Each comes with a beautifully illustrated box representing the Knowledge Keeper’s Shrine, depicting the story of a powerful seer who was the first to have a vision of Ragnarök.
Both Editions will come with a printed voucher code for the full game on PS4 and PS5 consoles, exclusive downloadable skins and weapons, a Steelbook Display Case (with no physical game disc), dice sets and a 16” replica of Mjölnir – Thor’s signature weapon.
The Jötnar set comes with more collectable items – like the Draupnir Ring, a ring from Norse mythology and a cloth map showing each of the Nine Realms with the branches and roots of Yggdrasil.
One slight problem though – both editions will not come with a physical copy of the game.
If you want a physical disc, you can only get it via the Standard Edition, which comes in a digital or physical form.
Sony didn’t say how much the Collector’s Editions will cost, only that pre-orders open from 15 July.
