Attention Overwatch Fans! Blizzard Says Overwatch 2 On Track For Launch, Beta To Launch In End April

After years of delay, Overwatch 2 is finally on track for launch.

The beta for the game launches next month and interested players can sign up here

It will feature a 5-on-5 PvP mode – as opposed to the current standard of 6-on-6 – as well as fresh maps, upgraded heroes and a new character.

A closed alpha opened last week but only for Blizzard employees, Overwatch League pros and other special players.

Developers posted this video last Friday, featuring Aaron Keller, game director for Overwatch 2.

He also said the team needed more time to work through the game’s PvE mode, which is why they’re separating Overwatch 2’s PvP and PvE experiences.

Overwatch 2 was first announced back in 2019 at BlizzCon, the crowned sequel to the 2016 competitive shooter and was popular for its diverse hero cast, art style and gameplay.

And even though it’s been a few years, Overwatch still managed to rack up impressive numbers – Active Player estimated the game had just over 7 million active players in the last month alone.

But fans have criticised Blizzard for not updating the original game and the developers have come under heavy fire for not communicating their plans for Overwatch 2 properly.

Apart from updates for the game, Keller also issued an apology to the Overwatch community, apologising for the lack of updates and the team’s poor communication.
